Friends & Family:

The day has almost arrived… On Friday, June 23rd, at 5:15 a.m., I will be boarding an airplane for South Africa. It seems like just yesterday that I was sitting with the Zakariasen's discussing a potential opportunity for me to go back to South Africa for one year. Now, in less than 12 hours, that potential opportunity will become a reality.

I am so thankful to God for how He has worked in my life over the past year - carefully orchestrating every little detail. It was one year ago that God broke my stubborn will and changed my selfish heart. Not only that, but He placed in me a desire to go back to South Africa for an extended period of time. Immediately, I knew that the desire had to be from God because it was completely contrary to everything I had ever wanted for my life. For most of my life, I told God that I would do anything He wanted, except go to the mission field. However, when I completely surrendered my life to God last summer, He took away my lifelong fear of missions and instead gave me an unexpected desire for it. It was so amazing to see how quickly God opened the doors from that point on. I began to pray that I might have an opportunity to go back to South Africa, and after only a few days, the Zakariasen's asked me if I would like to come over and minister with them for one year. Our God works in so many miraculous ways - ways that we cannot possibly understand, but can only praise Him for.

While I want to thank God for everything He has done, I would also like to thank each one of you. The love, support, and encouragement that you have each shown to me has been such a blessing. It is such an assurance to know that, as I minister in South Africa, I have people back at home that are lifting me up in prayer on a daily basis. I thank God for each one of you.

Many of you have been asking me how you can pray for me, so here are a few prayer requests and praises that I have:

PRAISES ~
  • My mom is going with me to South Africa for two weeks
  • I have been able to spend some quality time with my family and friends over the past week
  • God is continually relieving any nerves and anxieties that arise within me
PRAYER REQUESTS ~
  • Everything would go smoothly, as I finish packing my suitcases
  • God would give us safety in our travels, and that everything would be running on schedule
  • For God's grace and comfort, as I say goodbye to my family and close friends
  • I would have a flexible attitude and servant's heart - to be willing to work wherever I am needed
  • God would give me patience and love for the five girls that will be at the Zak's until August
Again, thank you all for your prayers - it means more than I could ever tell you. Next time you hear from me, I will be on the other side of the world. May God bless each one of you, as you seek to follow hard after Him. We serve an awesome God!

God bless,

Krista Smith

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."
